Nick Hagelin’s vocal character is undeniably experienced. His impeccable range, timing, and pitch are what likely brought him success on NBC’s ‘The Voice’, but his soulful studio work shines through in his most recent release, The Water.
Past releases from Hagelin have largely been in the same vein as popular music of the day. The Water sticks to his conventional r&b/pop approach to songwriting while compiling an impressive array of production and arrangement techniques. The title track is a completely new sound for Nick, combining elements of progressive trance, hip-hop, with his ever-present acoustic guitar. This foray into modern EDM places many of his tracks in a perfect position for future radio play including “Blue Moon,” a vocal-forward dance ballad produced by Gordon Bombay. This ethereal pad-heavy track is saturated with bright background vocals that truly showcase his vocal and compositional range.
“Momentum” takes his album in a completely different direction. The album version deftly incorporates space with a laid-back hip-hop production from B.A.M. This greatly contrasts the version we are presenting today from the inaugural performance on our main stage in March. The band’s funk-inspired renditions of Nick’s originals blew the crowd away with their high-energy sets. This is the first in a series of videos documenting this performance.
The Water EP is available on Spotify & iTunes.
